Sascha Segan, PC Magazine’s Lead Analyst for mobile phones and PDAs, published a review on the new Verizon Treo 650. Overall he was impressed with the Treo, but was extremely disappointed with the data services:
“Verizon’s palmOne Treo 650 is still an excellent smartphone, and it gets special kudos for its audio quality. But we’re going to withhold Editors’ Choice because, unlike its Sprint and Cingular siblings, it doesn’t make the most of its carrier’s data network, and, what’s more, it overcharges for the existing one.”
His review compares audio quality and data service options. He points out that while the Verizon Treo’s speakerphone is louder, unlimited data service is quite a bit more expensive then the Cingular and Sprint counterparts. Verizon - $44.99 (OUCH!), Cingular - $24.99, Sprint - $15. $44.99! It’s not even EV-DO nor can you use the Treo as a bluetooth modem!
