    Friday the 13th Treo Trouble

Last Friday morning I had one of the weirdest things happen to me with my Treo. When I woke up in the morning to TreoAlarm, I hit the cancel on the alarm. The Treo then made a funny noise, but I didn’t think anything of it and preceded to get ready for work. On my way to work a buddy of mine called -

“Yhello?” (yeah I say hello weird that way)
    “Hey, why aren’t w..”

    *POOF!* Treo resets. ARG!

pa1m powered circleJust about when it was finished booting back up, it popped up a dialog at the Palm Powered circle splash screen saying that the device was critically low on memory, then it reset again. It continued doing this loop until I pulled the battery.

How could it be low on memory? I had around 7.5 MB left last night, there is no way I’m low on memory. At work I put the battery back in and it started the loop again. Darn, the only way I’m going to clear the memory now, is to do a hard reset. Grrrr. I hadn’t done a back-up in almost 2 weeks. So I’m about to do a hard reset when I decide to do try a system or “warm” reset. Woo Hoo! It booted! Facer won’t launch so I had to get the phone app to launch Filez. After spending a while looking through the files I couldn’t find what had taken the rest of my memory. I deleted a few unneeded apps and prepared to do a hard reset. After doing a backup I was about ready to do a hard reset when I considered what the last app I had used the night before. The Camera app - I had taken a pic the previous night. So I fired the the Pics&Video app and cleaned up some pics - when I found it - a 7mb video - of nothing. That is what the sound was - I must have turned the video cam on when I turned off my alarm. It had taken the rest of the room left the internal memory and the call to my buddy and the log entry it generated must have “broken the camel’s back”. So after I removed the video - all was well.

So you may ask why I told you this story. I learned a lesson here - pics and videos that you have stored on internal memory don’t show up in Filez. So if you all of a sudden lost a significant amount of memory and can’t find where it went, check your pics on your internal memory.
