Ringo Pro: Advanced ringtones for your Treo!
I was recently given the opportunity to review Electric Pocket’s (http://elecricpocket.com) Ringo Pro application. Ringo Pro allows you to set MP3 and polyphonic ringtones for people, groups and SMS messages. Ringo Pro also lets you set pictures for those friends and groups.
The Treo 650 shipped a little anemic, in my opinion, by not allowing MP3 ringtone playback right out of the box. Electric Pocket has addressed this very nicely in Ringo Pro. I have an SD card chock full of MP3 songs, and now with RP, I can use them to distinguish different friends, family or business contacts. For example, I might want to have Nelly’s “Hot in Herre” ringtone set for my girlfriend, but have “Uptight (Everything is alright)” by Stevie Wonder for my Captain (just kidding). I could also have a portrait of my girlfriend (which I actually do) show up when she calls and, say, a picture of a turkey show up for one of my buddies. The possibilities are endless!
Usage of Ringo Pro is pretty straightforward. The main screen offers you the ability to set the default ringtone and SMS tone as well as the incoming call picture. There is also a checkbox here to enable “Announce Callers”, which is an add-on utility (EPSpeak) from Electric Pocket that can be purchased for $9.95 USD.
In the bottom, right hand corner of the main configuration screen, there are two icons: one to set up your friends’ individual tones and one to set up ringtones for certain groups. You can go back to the main setup screen by tapping/clicking the little music clef icon. If you click the “Shop” button on the bottom of the screen next to these other icons, your Treo will launch Blazer and take you to the Electric Pocket ringtone store where you can purchase additional ringtones.
Ringo Pro’s preferences are simple, with the ability to manage all non-MP3 ringtones (“New”, which lets you record a new tone, “Send” which lets you send the tone via IR, Bluetooth, etc. and “Details” which gives you the ability to edit the name of the ringtone) and to import ringtones from your SD card.
Having used Ringo Pro for a while now, I can safely say that it is very stable on the Treo 650, and has caused no ill effects to my precious. The only issue that one will most certainly run into is Ringo’s incompatibility when running TreoGuard at the same time (you’ll have to disable TreoGuard in order to make RP happy) due to TG’s ability to use MP3’s as ringtones as well.
Ringo Pro can be purchased through several outlets including the treo Addicts web store(http://software.treoaddicts.com/product.asp?id=714, $26.95 until 6/27/05); Ringo Pro retails for $29.95USD on Electric Pocket’s website
I wholeheartedly and happily give Ringo Pro a four out of five Treos rating!

Hey, I am just wondering if this program can be used on the Treo 600? I am looking for an alternative for CallFilter
