A few weeks ago I started experiencing problems where my Treo 650 would become totally unresponsive - none of the keys would work. Even a reset didn’t help. I was convinced my Treo had died but I eventually happened upon the cause.
Somewhere along the way, my right shift key lost its elasticity and became hard as a rock with no spring to it. It’s permanently stuck physically and apparently it very easily gets stuck electronically as well, thereby disabling all other keys.
I’ve tried and failed to unwedge the key with a tiny screwdriver or needlenose pliers. It still has that hard feeling with no give. Next I guess I’d try opening up the unit, but it seems to need some tiny Torx bit that I don’ have (smaller than T-10). Anyone complete this operation successfully?
Others, if your keyboard starts acting up, keep your eye out for this problem.

I have no problems and didn’t do any repair. By accident I found an interesting site. So if you want to repair it by yourself, you can go to http://www.gethightech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=RD for repair directions.

I have the same problem but so far I haven’t had any issue resulting from it. I don’t want to tempt fate by trying to get it to work again… I’ll just live without it…At least the Treo’s have two shift buttons unlike the Blackberry I used to own.

I had a stuck shift key also. When it was stuck, nothing else worked on the Treo.
So I followed the video referred to above (great instructions) and found the stuck shift key. Since I did not need it, I clipped off the plastic knob under the key, so that it could not press on the pad. I then slipped a piece of scotch tape between the two metal pads (under the key) so that it would not work.
I put it all back together (had to do twice, since I forgot to hook up the volume switch). Now it works great…without the lower right shift key!
