Since the wife and I had our first child, we have been very itchy to buy our first home. During the process its nice figure out how much certain houses are going to cost us. Fortunatly there are quite a few free little apps to help us figure out what a mortgage would cost us.
Palm Treos - PITI Calc
This app just showed up on FreewarePalm and I have found this application to be perfect for my needs. Besides a regular mortgage calculator, it allows you to factor in taxes, insurance and even PMI.

Win Treo - Loan Calc
Simple but effective mortgage calculator - does it’s job well. Even looks good on the 240×240 700w screen.

Smallware just released updates to their great Solitaire games - Sol Free and Solebon.
Freeware of the Day: Sol Free is probably my favorite free game out there. It was one of the first games I put on my Sony Clie UX-50 and was the first game I made sure I had on my Treo when I switched the the Treo 650. The interface of the software that I use is really important to me, but sometimes with free software you usually have to give up a pretty interface. Not with Sol Free - it is probably the best looking free app that is on my Treo. Game play is great, features are nice and it runs great from my SD card (don’t have to go back and clean up any files ).
If Baker’s Game, Demon, Klondike Deal 1, Klondike Deal 3, and Spiderette just is not enough for you - upgrade to Solebon. Same stellar interface, 50 games, and free upgrades for life! Stay tuned - I will soon be taking a closer look at Solebon.
Here is what was updated with the recent versions:

It’s been a while since I did the last Freeware of the Day, and this one is a great one to come back with. Inner Backup, is a great and free backup utility for the Palm OS. It seems comparative to other backup software that I have tried in the past (haven’t tried too many though). You can backup, restore, and manage multiple backups on your SD card. I tried it out last night and the backup works nicely - haven’t tried to use the restore yet. The interface is also impressive. You can download and even help keep Inner Backup free by donating at their website:

I noticed over at PalmAddict that FileZ has been updated. Version 6.8 which was released yesterday, includes support for the 5-way navigation button (YEAH!) and fixes a few bugs.
If you are not familiar with FileZ, it is a great file management utility for Palm OS devices. Best of all, its FREE!

At last minute, the wife and I decided to visit my “parental crew” at their cabin in northern Wisconsin. Problem is that there is no internet access for me up there - no dial-up, no data via my Treo - probably not even digital roaming. So while I’m going through internet withdrawl, I wont be able to update treo Addicts. But you can take a look at my baby pics and I leave you with a related Freeware of the Day:
FWotD : EarthComber - this is an interesting program that I played with a couple months ago.
Earthcomber is a location finding utility for the Palm which brings together personal navigation, mobile mapping, and community networking in a unique free package.
Earthcomber offers free digital street maps of the entire USA, with over 1.5 million historic, commercial, and natural points of interest ready to be discovered, with more added each day.
Earthcomber’s mobile software also lets users mark their own spots, then share them with the world through our online Community. Create travel logs, organize events, shop on the fly, find your business essentials — Earthcomber makes any trip an adventure.

I will try to take some pictures with the Treo and upload them to the treo SplashBlog once I get back into Sprint coverage. Well, I’m in the car about to lose signal, the wife is getting tired so its time for me to take over driving. If you are doing anything this Memorial weekend, have fun and safe traveling!

I stumbled on a new Palm blogging app on PalmGear today. u*Blog allows you to post, edit and delete entries from multiple blog accounts; you can download and choose categories (GREAT!); and you can even preview an upload pictures (if your blog supports it). u*Blog supports Blogger, MoveableType, and any metaWeblog supported blogs like what treo Addicts use - WordPress.
I am a big fan of mo:blog but this free app is going to give mo:blog and hblogger a real run for their money.
This entry was posted using u*Blog and is my first attempt at posting something. I also attached a picture.
PalmGear : u*Blog 1.0
UPDATE : I had to fix the image URL after posting, but now I know how it works, it is an easy thing to get around. My only real problem with this software is the lack of documentation.

Today’s Freeware of the Day and today’s Mobile Site of the Day are inspired after my experience this week. I was sick most of the week with bad cold/flu then I landed myself in the emergency room yesterday afternoon. So today’s FWotD and MSotD are health related.
So I chose the recently updated ProfileMD Classic v1.04 for FWotD. ProfileMD is a personal health record for PalmOS handhelds. Very helpful if you’re at the doctor and they are asking a million questions regarding your medical history. ProfileMD Classic allows you to track allergies, medications, surgeries, and illnesses. ProfileMD was also updated a few days ago. Version 1.04 (5/18/05) includes the following changes:
• Updates to most forms
• Updates to most tables
• Table sorting
• BMI Calculator

Freeware of the Day : Speedy 5.1 is a great little utility to measure your Treo’s muscle compared to other Palm OS handhelds. When I ran the test on my Treo 650, my highest results were 1402 % at 280 MHz. My Treo did a little better then the app’s recorded Treo 650 results.

Post your results in the comments…

Today’s Freeware of the Day is probably the best file manager on the Palm and it’s free too! Filez was also recently updated to add the ability to set the dirty/secret flags for records. If you don’t have this on your Treo, get it.
