Its always great to see my beloved Sprint Treo 650 on my favorite shows. Tonight I was treated to a second helping as Agent Jack Bauer used a Treo to send some data to CTU.

I was just thinking of the Diet Pepsi/Jackie Chan commercial where Diet Coke winds up being Diet Pepsi’s stunt double. “Stunt Double!” [D Pepsi switched w/ D Coke] {Crunch!}. How about if they needed a stunt double for the Treo? Say the Treo gets shot out of Bauer’s hands…. “Cloe, I’m sending you a picture of the hostile pointing a gun at me. I need you to…” STUNT DOUBLE! [Treo switched with BLACKBERRY te he he he ] BANG! SMASH!
I get a kick out of seeing the Treo on my favorite shows. Besides 24 I have also got to see it on Smallville quite a few times. I’m just waiting until it shows up on Lost now… I better not hold my breath on that one.

I got such a kick out of this comment that was made to my “I’m Back…” post, that I decided I would post it and my response as a story..
chris Says: Will my treo 650 get jealous if I look at the new 700 on it’s screen? I already feel guilty typing in this question. I know she knows.
cyberhomie Says: Chris - I’m not really sure. Maybe you need to have a heart to um.. heart? conversation with her first. In some relationships, the pair can find this rather stimulating and exciting. In others, it can cause feelings of jealousy or betrayal and unrealistic expectations like “Why can’t you do that?” or “I wish you were more like that”. Now that I have both, I have found the 2 to be at least civil with each other. They don’t talk to each other much, but at least they talk sometimes. My 650 knows that they are still #1 with me. So I guess my main advice is talk about it first - All you have to do is pick up the phone…. ~ dr cyber

People have been wondering what happened to treo Addicts… Is tA dead? For sale? … Nope. treo Addicts is still here and I’m back now. Where have I been all this time? Well its complicated but the main reason is that my family had a new addition arrive a few months ago. On October 18 at 2:26 am, my wife gave birth to our first child - Xander. Our little baby boy was born weighing 7 pounds 3 ounces and was 21 inches long. Becoming a father has been one of the coolest things that has ever happened to me. At the risk of sounding like a sappy cheezy daddy - he is so smart and adorable. Fortunately my day job allows me to work from home, so I get to be around him quite a bit.

My boy and I sitting on the couch watching a little TV. Taken on 1/5/06
[ Side note, watching TV right now and I just saw a Cingular commercial with the Treo 650. The guy takes a picture of his newborn baby with the Treo at the end of the commercial. Awesome ]
So baby, then holidays (oy!) and busy busy busy with the day job - I have had my hands full lately. Also before coming back I have done quite a few upgrades and have been adding some new features to the site. I’ll post some more details of these upgrades and some of the great new features soon.
Fortunately I have been able to play with my Treo during this time. Got to try out some great apps and got to use some really cool accessories.
So look forward to some reviews and I will also be doing some catching up on some older stories to fill the gap…

In order to help “do our part” with the relief effort for Hurricane Katrina victims, treo Addicts has put up a few donation banners for the American Red Cross. Please consider donating some money to help.
Besides visiting the American Red Cross website to donate, you can also donate on Amazon and through iTunes.
I have already donated myself and treo Addicts will be donating a portion of September sales from the treo Addicts Store and the treo Addicts Software Store.

You may have noticed things have been a little slow around tA. I recently spent a few days in the hospital with my wife. You may remember that we are expecting a little geek in October… well there wound up being a chance they the little tike was going to come a little early.
I took my wife to the hospital last week since she got really really sick from a nasty stomach flu. They found out pretty quickly that she was dehydrated and was having contractions. To make a long story short - we were fortunate that the doctors and nurses were able to nurse her back to health and get the contractions to stop. After a few days of sitting around and sleeping in a hospital recliner, I am happy to be back home.
My Treo was great to have with me - I kept family informed via email, txt messaging and calls. When I was bored I was able to play a few games or toss off a couple emails.

So on the subject of babies, daddies, and Treos - I wanted to point out a cool mobile site for expectant and new dads that I found recently on Treo Today. Its called Brand New Dad [mobile.brandnewdad.com], an online community, resource center and search engine for new and expectant fathers. The mobile site features a month to month set of articles for basics of taking care of a baby, a baby name finder (helpful since the wife and I still haven’t agreed on a name yet), a pregnancy calculator, a glossary and the ability to read recent forum posts. You can visit the full site at www.brandnewdad.com.
So now I have some catching up to do - my day job, treo Addicts and at home. Fun fun fun…

I’m out in the backyard, enjoying the sunset, watching the ducks swim by, and doing some fishing (although I’m not catching anything).
Also, I wanted to remind people of the treo SplashBlog (www.splashblog.com/treo). You can post your pics to it using the new group posting feature of SplashBlog.

This is way off topic, but it was too cool not to point out. Some of you may recall that I am a father to be, so I subscribe to a few pregnancy blogs out there. I followed a link from Weblogs, Inc.’s (same company that does Engadget) BloggingBaby site to these “techie” baby clothes:

Great, eh? I might have to get those and this one too:

With Lindsey’s recent updated testimonial on PalmAddicts about her Treo 600, I thought I’d visit a similar subject myself. I’ve been using the 650 for a few months now, and I still love it. I had given a short, positive synopsis of my experience in the beginning of my usage, and I don’t think much has changed. I have used it for just about everything when I’ve been away from my PC, and as long as I can get my mail and do a little instant messaging, I’m golden!
I’d like to venture slightly into the unknown with the 650, though. I’d like to convert some movies, get a ginormous SD card, put said movies on the card and then watch them on the go. In all the years and with all the PDA’s I’ve owned over the past ten years, I haven’t done that but once or twice. I know, “for shame” you say! I also want to start blogging from the Treo soon. I’ve been very bogged down with the stuff I HAVE to do and not the stuff I LOVE to do…but real life certainly has a way of doing that. I think getting an hour or so in the evening to blog would be nice.
So, all in all, I’m still having a great time with the Treo 650. Are there any other testimonials out there? Let us know!

The article, which will be in July’s copy of PCWorld, features the best products and services for the last year. The Treo 650 was ranked as the best PDA Phone while VeriChat was ranked the best Mobile Instant Messaging App. Also among the winners were Apple for Mac OS X 10.4, the iPod, iTunes, and the iTunes Music Store; Google for their search engine, Gmail, and their desktop search tool; Skype; and Mozilla for Thunderbird and took home the “Product of the Year” award for Firefox.
You can read the article and view reviews and best pricing for most of the products:

At last minute, the wife and I decided to visit my “parental crew” at their cabin in northern Wisconsin. Problem is that there is no internet access for me up there - no dial-up, no data via my Treo - probably not even digital roaming. So while I’m going through internet withdrawl, I wont be able to update treo Addicts. But you can take a look at my baby pics and I leave you with a related Freeware of the Day:
FWotD : EarthComber - this is an interesting program that I played with a couple months ago.
Earthcomber is a location finding utility for the Palm which brings together personal navigation, mobile mapping, and community networking in a unique free package.
Earthcomber offers free digital street maps of the entire USA, with over 1.5 million historic, commercial, and natural points of interest ready to be discovered, with more added each day.
Earthcomber’s mobile software also lets users mark their own spots, then share them with the world through our online Community. Create travel logs, organize events, shop on the fly, find your business essentials — Earthcomber makes any trip an adventure.

I will try to take some pictures with the Treo and upload them to the treo SplashBlog once I get back into Sprint coverage. Well, I’m in the car about to lose signal, the wife is getting tired so its time for me to take over driving. If you are doing anything this Memorial weekend, have fun and safe traveling!
