I got such a kick out of this comment that was made to my “I’m Back…” post, that I decided I would post it and my response as a story..

In others, it can cause feelings of jealousy or betrayal and unrealistic expectations like “Why can’t you do that?” or “I wish you were more like that”. Now that I have both, I have found the 2 to be at least civil with each other. They don’t talk to each other much, but at least they talk sometimes. My 650 knows that they are still #1 with me. I have a question on data connectivity. I have a Verizon 650 and travel out of Verizon’s home area often, upstate Michigan. The idea of the Treo is to have connectivity when you are away from your desk. Even though I have a good digital signal and 1x is indicated on the phone I can’t get on line. I get an error message saying the password is incorrect and I assume it’s the password to log on to the local carriers data network. Before the Treo I had a Kyocera triband 7135 and I could switch it to the Quick-to-net analog data service and at least connect. The Treo is locked to the National Access service. Is there anything I can do to have data capabilities when I’m out of the home coverage area? Any hope in the future?

Thanks Neal - I’m glad you brought this up! I remember when I first got my Treo 650, I was looking for the same thing and found the Symantec solution. Since I’m a Mac user, I can’t even try to install it. Fortunately a company is coming to our rescue - FB-4.

Anybody know of an app for the Treo that can convert text to speech?

Why do I ask? Because a friend on mine has a Perl script that he uses to grab the text of RSS feeds and then he syncs the text files to his Pocket PC and uses a program on there to read them aloud to him while he drives, walks, washes dishes, etc…

The alternative is to use something using desktop TTS like Audiolicious but it’s a fairly involved install and it’s Windows-dependent.
